Military bands, ensembles play in Merchants Square in August

The annual Merchants Square Summer Breeze Concert series will feature free performances by five military bands and ensembles throughout the month of August.

The United States Air Force Heritage Brass Ensemble will perform classical, jazz and popular music, from Bach to the Beatles, on Wednesday, Aug. 1.

The United States Air Force Heritage Ramblers Ensemble will bring the New Orleans and Chicago styles of traditional jazz to life Wednesday, Aug. 8.

The United States Air Force Blue Aces Ensemble will perform a wide variety of musical styles Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The United States Army TRADOC concert band will play a mix of old favorites and modern works Wednesday, Aug. 22.

The United States Air Force in Blue Ensemble will perform a wide variety of jazz, blues and funk Wednesday, Aug. 29.

All concerts, sponsored by Merchants Square, the City of Williamsburg and the Legacy Financial Group, will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. on Duke of Gloucester St., in Merchants Square. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and wear dancing shoes. Food and drinks will be available from Merchants Square's nine restaurants.

Free entertainment for young children, including face painting, bubble making and clowns, will also be featured beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Duke of Gloucester Street between Williams-Sonoma and Talbots.

Parking will be available at the Prince George Street garage and the lot the corner of South Henry and Francis streets.
