WATA appoints new executive director

Kevan Danker has been named the new executive director of WATA.

The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority Board of Directors has appointed a new executive director to lead the program.

The board selected Kevan Danker as the new executive director, effective immediately. Dankar has worked in Virginia public transit for 23 years. He was previously the deputy executive director for planning and development for WATA.

Before being hired by WATA, Danker served as the assistant director of JAUNT Inc., a public transportation provider for the Charlottesville area. He also was the manager of Paratransit Operations for Blacksburg Transit.

Members of the WATA Board of Directors said Dekar was the unanimous choice.

Board member Doug Powell cited Dankar's transit experience as the key to his appointment, as well as the future plans Danker outlined for WATA in his interview.
