Williamsburg Police Department receives re-accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies has announced the Williamsburg Police Department has once again received re-accreditation.

To be re-accredited, the department must comply with international law enforcement standards, which address such topics as training, criminal investigation, crime prevention and special operations. The Williamsburg Police Department has been accredited for 25 years through CALEA, and has submitted annual reports regarding compliance with the standards under which they were initially accredited.

In July 1987, the department became the 49th law enforcement agency in the United States to be awarded CALEA accreditation. The department has been re-accredited six times — 1992, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009 — with the department's most recent on-site assessment and review for re-accreditation occurring in the spring.
